Italys Postal Service. Volume 3. The inter-war period 1919-1945
With war came indubitable progress in the organisation of the military post; but, at the end of hostilities, various dysfunctions resurfaced that had to do with the ordering of personnel, productivity and tariffs. Following a long debate, the reforms announced by the Fascist government ushered in several radical changes in the postal service and the telecommunications system began to materialise, thanks above all to the applications of radiotelegraphy and the installation of numerous underwater telegraph wires. The development of airmail helped amplify and streamline postal transport. Furthermore, the inclusion since 1924 of the Postal Service in the Ministry of Communications ensured a return to profit and encouraged distribution in suburbs, financial structuring, the building of new post offices and the extension of the service to the colonies.
