Cognitive Pragmatics
In the cognitive sciences a rather paradoxical metaphor has taken root: to communicate means 'reading the mind' of our interlocutor. Sentences and words are not elements of a code to decipher, but rather clues to a message understood by the speaker. From a cognitive standpoint-in addition to philosophical reflections on what makes communication possible-it has also become important to explore questions regarding the mental processes underlying linguistic output and comprehension. The volume explores the patterns, strategies and complex systems of expectations behind our every communication.
