History of Italy. 5: The Republic
Giovanni Sabbatucci - Vittorio Vidotto (a cura di)
In the critical twenty years between 1943 and 1963 Italy saw the birth and consolidation of a Republican democracy, and underwent great changes in its economy, society and culture. Following the years of reconstruction and great institutional and political choices, the nation entered a more intense phase of growth and expansion. Despite the often confused nature of this growth and the duration of age-old territorial disequilibrium did not prevent Italy from achieving an important position in the Western industrial democracies and to take part from the outset in the process of European integration.
