Italy of the Economic Miracle
Valerio Castronovo
The yeas of dreams of affluence and evasion, of the Fiat Cinquecento and early consumerism, of the many new objects that filled Italy's homes, of the hopes that changed her people's needs and expectations, of the celebrated film, Il Sorpasso, of the dolce vita, of the singer songwriters, of the groundbreaking TV quiz Lascia e raddoppia. The years in which Italy's lifestyle was transformed, as was its social make-up and political landscape: Italy, partly provincial and lagging behind its neighbours, partly chasing everything that was modern, hung in the balance between the old and new.
