Fastweb 1999-2009. The story of an innovative firm
In 1999, a year of great upheaval for Italian telecommunications, Fastweb was created in Milan. From an industrial and technological perspective the proposed project was highly innovative: the construction of a fibre optics network and the adoption of the IP protocol for the transmission of voice, data and video. Ten years after taking up the challenge, Fastweb has proved massively successful. Its network is the standard for new generation Internet services and its market presence has been extended from Milan to the rest of the country, making it today the leading protagonist among the actors who emerged as a result of deregulation and the euphoria for the net economy.
